“Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Human Rights: Opportunity or Risk?” This article examines the dual impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the protection and promotion of human rights in the digital age. On the one hand, AI technologies offer significant opportunities for enhancing monitoring systems, improving transparency, facilitating access to justice, and preventing human rights violations. Tools such as facial recognition, data mining, and predictive analytics have enabled governments and organizations to detect abuses, streamline judicial processes, and optimize public policy development. On the other hand, the article warns of the inherent risks associated with AI, including algorithmic bias, privacy breaches, mass surveillance misuse, and the concentration of power within large technology corporations. Without robust regulatory frameworks and clear ethical guidelines, these threats could exacerbate inequality and lead to new forms of human rights violations. The research is based on a critical literature review and international case studies, emphasizing that balancing technological innovation with respect for human dignity requires societies to establish regulations promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI deployment. The article concludes by highlighting the necessity of ensuring that technological progress serves social justice and human rights protection through coordinated efforts between governments, civil society, and technology developers.
